This has just shown up on my local Craigslist. It is a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . My dad had a 92 900 convertible in this color when I was born. It brings back cool memories. He is asking $1000. It has the 5 speed manual and 200,000 miles. The AC works still. All it needs are new front tires. I want it. Really badly. NPOCP?
UPDATE! Tan cloth interior on it is in great shape but a bit dirty! He already has had over a dozen people respond to the ad and has someone looking at it in 15 minutes... I may be too late. :(

The engine will blow up at 201,000 miles but even then NP

Don't do it blah blah bad idea blah blah CP blah blah
(DO IT! but drive it first and bring a mechanic with you, do it if everything checks out)

It's just a grand, so I will not attempt to talk you out of it. I will possibly try to buy it before you do, however. :)

I couldn't live with myself if I tried to talk you out of an original 900. DO IT.

My dads Saab was full of little bugs. He got rid of it when it decided to burn itself down in the driveway. I still want this one though

I'm in luck because right near the guy is a certified Saab mechanic... all he does is Saabs... bet the check out will cost just as much as the car!

Real NP. 200,000 is the magic number though. Nothing is reliable anymore after 200k. Make a nice LeMons car though.

YOU AREN'T HELPING! But seriously I love everything about the way it looks! Especially the green!

Lets be serious... its an old Saab... nothing was reliable with it when it rolled out of the factory!

Have him drive it there and make that the meetup spot. It shouldn't be THAT expensive. I didn't even spend half as much when I took an E60 M5 to a PPI for my brother.

That is the problem... it is so little money! I can walk into the bank and they won't question me at all when I pull that out. Hell, I can get that from the ATM!

I'm more partial to the hatchback, but the cladding/trim/paint look pretty good. For that price I would definitely consider it. Any idea what the interior condition is?

I was quite surprised when I saw it that all the trim was still there.. no mention of it in the ad but I emailed the guy asking about it..

This is true. But Saabs aren't terrible in terms of reliability. I'm sure it was reliable enough over the course of its life where it wasn't a burden to live with it. Now it's probably a nightmare.

Most likely but I don't really care.. I mean my dad's convertible was full of bugs... his lit itself on fire and burned down in our driveway! If all the electrics work on this I'd be impressed

UPDATE: He wrote back! Tan cloth is in perfect shape but just a bit dirty... he told me he has over a dozen people respond already! Someone is looking at it in 15 minutes!

Well budget $2000 for tires and all the small repairs it will immediately need, but just a grand and it even has working A/C? Do it now!

Fair enough man. I'd go for it then. Worst case scenario, if there's something majorly expensive to fix, just flip it and you're out a couple hundo max.

My thinking exactly... it should easily go for around 700 as a parts car... very very tempted

Any saab for 1000 is a good deal, buy it, BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!

Buy buy buy

It depends on many factors. Do you live in a part of the country that reaches sub-zero temperatures? Do you enjoy working on a car when it is snowing and -10F below zero? Do you have lots of money and lots of expendable income to buy parts and repairs for this Saab? Do you have a nice boss that does not care if you come in late for work once a week and will not fire you? If the answers to the above questions is "yes" then go for it. I love old Saabs also but would never buy one unless I could afford to make it perfect.

I'm in sunny SW Florida so cold is never an issue. This wouldn't be a daily driver, I have a new Civic for that, so reliability isn't a huge issue. The extra money is the small issue... but I won't drive it every day so... and also if it goes horribly wrong I could part it out for a bit.

Do it!

Seriously, I'd DD the fuck out of this thing. 2.1s, head gasket issues aside, were strong motors. The 5-speed gearbox was well sorted by '93 as well.

The 900 is one of my favourite cars ever, and dark green is pretty much the best colour for cars in my book. Plus its cheap. The mileage isn't too bad for a Saab if it's been looked after ok. New front tyres, well that comes with the badge if you have a heavy foot...
So I'm gonna be the devil on your shoulder, and the one on your other shoulder too.... Get INVOLVED ;)
